Human Resources

Our actions are guided by the fundamental respect for each man and woman in the Group.
Efficiency, motivation and personal satisfaction are enhanced by open dialogue, quality working conditions, the integration of new employees, training, promotion and the passing on of experience. - Colas SA

Our Values

Every ColasCanada employee shares the same common values which are fundamental throughout our companies and are part of our groups’ culture and are as follows:

Enterprise Each employee should show initiative and be motivated by a desire to win, to commit and to succeed.
Responsibility Each individual is fully accountable for his or her decisions and actions.
Trust Relations within the Group are based on trust, which is the cornerstone of autonomy, frankness and authenticity. It is for each person to establish and develop his or her trustworthiness.
Respect Respect is the basic rule of behaviour that guides every employee in all his or her actions: respect for oneself and respect for other employees, customers, third parties, the trade unions, society at large, the Group’s principles, laws and regulations, the environment, fairness and ethics in the broadest sense.
Setting an example Each day, every employee is expected to give the best of themselves, to strive constantly for quality and to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism.
Humility  Through continual self-questioning and by maintaining a humble attitude, each employee is always able to advance.

Our Human Resources Commitments

Based on strong values, the aim of ColasCanada’s Human Resources policy is to ensure the Group’s profitable and balanced development by fostering, mobilizing and retaining talents and allowing them to flourish as part of our teams. Our efforts are concentrated on providing human resource services such as employee and labour relations, recruitment, training, internal promotion and mobility, risk prevention and managing our teams.

Our commitments in the following five areas contribute to making ColasCanada a benchmark in its sectors:

  • An ambitious recruitment policy founded on diversity: we seek to attract and hire the very best, looking at the requirements of the future, rejecting discrimination of any kind and embracing diversity within the Group.
  •  A sustained training program: our training policy aims to pass on the Group’s know-how and culture, and tailor skills to meet new challenges.
  • Improved internal promotion and job mobility: we do all we can to encourage upward social mobility, planning ahead and satisfying people’s aspirations for geographical and job mobility.
  • Increasingly effective risk prevention: we are energetically and imaginatively committed to protecting the lives and the health of our employees.
  • Team management based on respect and trust: we train our site supervisors in man management.

Our Student Partnering Program

The Student Partnering Program assists post secondary students with the cost of tuition and books while providing summer work opportunities in their field of study. A mentor is also assigned to provide guidance and advice to the student.

"The beauty of the Partnership Program for me was the fact that not only was I supported financially, but Wapiti Gravel Suppliers gave me great summer employment where I learned almost as much as in the classroom! Now thanks to that experience along with my degree, I am now an Area Manager for G&C Asphalt, enjoying my day to day work with all the challenges and opportunities that come with it."

- Ryan Moe, Student Partnering Program Graduate, Area Manager, G&C Asphalt
