The City of Cranbrook - Lafrentz Road Marking

Lafrentz Road Marking, a division of Canadian Road Builders Inc., is a full service roadmarking organization, with highway painting operations covering Alberta and British Columbia as well as manufacturers and applicators of durable markings in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.

In 2009, the City of Cranbrook took us up on our promise of: Your Project – Your Way. The City of Cranbrook was completing critical stages of their downtown revitalization. The theme of railway was used extensively in their streetscape features. Utilizing the theme they approached Lafrentz with a request to apply a unique crosswalk in front of City Hall as part of the Lafrentz’s contract for all the durable roadmarkings on the project. The crosswalk was to resemble railway tracks while not confusing the traveling public. The City provided sketches and the custom production team at Lafrentz went to work.

What was approved was a gray background to provide a consistent, continuous contrast for the crosswalk. The yellow zebra bars with the red rails appeared to jump off the road. It was an unmistakable element contributing to the overall appearance of downtown.

Lafrentz provided both custom colors and application for this project. It took only a few hours for one of our five durable marking crews to place the crosswalk. However it was the culmination of a cooperative effort of the City of Cranbrook, the consulting engineers, the Lafrentz manufacturing facility and the Lafrentz contracting department that brought the idea to life.
