ColasCanada’s companies complete hundreds of projects every year and range from minor road repairs to major infrastructure development. Our projects span from coast to coast and are done with the best know how, expertise, ingenuity and creativity in the industry.
We are pleased to highlight some of the unique projects recently completed by our group that showcase ColasCanada’s strive for excellence in what we do.
Road 185, Saint-Louis du HaHa - Sintra
The Department of Transportation mandated BML Riviere-du-Loup, a division of Sintra, to reconfigure autoroute 85, a four lane highway. This included earthwork, road structure, drainage, demolition, aqueducts, domestic sewer, rebuilding bridges and culverts, installing roadway lighting, oversized destination signs and public services in the towns of Saint-Louis-du-Ha-Ha and Cabano, located in the Temiscouata county.
Kitimat Modernization Project - Kentron Construction
The Rio Tinto Alcan Kitimat Modernization Project (KMP) is a complete rebuild of the aluminum smelter in Kitimat, BC. Originally built in the 1950’s, the smelter will receive new state-of-the-art production technology that will increase production capacity from 275,000 to over 420,000 metric tonnes annually while also significantly improving the energy efficiency of the smelting process.
Cable Barrier Project: Highway 2 – Alberta Highway Services
In 2010, Alberta Highway Services completed the installation of a cable barrier system on Highway 2 between the City of Red Deer and the City of Airdrie. The $7.3M highway safety project is believed to be the largest cable barrier system contract in North America, including more than 22,000 posts and more than 500 km of cable installed in 45 days.
CN Calgary Logistics Park in Conrich, AB
Standard General was awarded a very large and exciting project by CN to develop their new intermodal site in the north east corner of Calgary. Under the supervision of AECOM, construction period was from September 2011 to December 2012. Work volumes included approximately 2.5 million m3 of earth, 550,000 t of aggregates, 60,000 m3 of roller compacted concrete, 50,000 t of asphalt, more than 7 kilometers of deep utilities, nearly 24 kilometers of railway and several million dollar worth of electrical and mechanical installations.
Dawson City Front Street - Bituclair – Skookum Asphalt
Through the collaborative efforts of the Yukon Territorial Government, Skookum Asphalt and Colas, they came to the solution to match the pavement color to the existing gravel roads using the Colas product, Bituclair, which was the first time that Bituclair was used in a North American application.
